The Return™ — A Fairytale of Remembering
Once, before anyone thought to count the years, there was a land so radiant it needed no sun.
Its light came from within.
Meadows rolled endlessly beneath wide-open skies. Rivers seemed to sing rather than flow. Wildflowers grew without permission, and every living being seemed to know its place within the great web of life.
Those who lived there knew their own names.
Not simply the names they had been given, but the deeper name beneath them—the quiet knowing of who they were.
They knew their hearts.
They trusted themselves.
They needed no map to find their way home.
They were home.
Then, one evening, a shadow appeared.
It was not dramatic. There was no thunder, no great darkness descending from the sky.
It came quietly.
A whisper of fear.
A forgotten wound.
A belief passed from one frightened heart to another.
And slowly, almost imperceptibly, the people began to change.
They built walls where there had once been open fields.
They learned to make themselves smaller.
They learned to silence the parts of themselves that felt too much, wanted too much, questioned too much.
The songs became quieter.
And eventually, the people forgot they had ever sung.
“This is simply how the world is,” they told their children.
And their children told theirs.
The shadow became an inheritance.
Generation after generation carried it without ever asking where it came from.
Until the walls seemed older than the land itself.
And then you were born.
You grew up believing the walls had always been there.
You learned that fear was simply part of life.
That belonging had to be earned.
That joy was temporary.
That being good meant making yourself acceptable to everyone else.
You learned to carry things that were never yours.
Stories.
Expectations.
Fears.
Wounds.
And perhaps you became very good at carrying them.
You went to work.
You built relationships.
You moved house.
You changed jobs.
Maybe you even changed countries.
You tried to become happier.
You read the books.
You learned the techniques.
You searched for answers.
And yet, somewhere beneath all of it, there remained a quiet ache.
A feeling you couldn’t quite explain.
A sense that something was missing.
Not something out there.
Something within.
And sometimes, in the quiet moments, a small voice whispered:
There has to be more than this.
Perhaps you’ve heard that voice too.
Perhaps that’s why you’re here.
Because there comes a moment when changing your circumstances isn’t enough.
You can change the relationship.
The job.
The house.
The city.
The country.
But eventually you discover something uncomfortable:
Wherever you go, you take yourself with you.
The old patterns travel quietly.
The old fears find new situations.
The old wounds find new people.
And the shadow follows.
Not because you are broken.
But because what has not been understood continues to shape the way we see the world.
Then, one day, on a road neither of us could have planned, our paths crossed.
I know the shadow.
I have lived inside those walls.
I know what it is to believe your past is your identity.
I know what it is to search everywhere for the answer and still feel as though something essential is missing.
And I also learned something:
You don’t need someone to save you.
You don’t need someone to carry you out of the darkness.
You need someone willing to walk beside you while you find your own way.
Someone who can sit with what hurts without immediately trying to make it disappear.
Someone who can help you recognise which voice is fear…
and which voice is yours.
Someone who can help you put down the burdens you were never meant to carry.
So we walk.
Slowly.
Not towards some perfect version of you.
Not towards becoming someone new.
But back towards the part of you that was always there.
Along the way, we begin to notice the walls.
Some were built from childhood.
Some from heartbreak.
Some from survival.
Some were inherited long before you were born.
And some were built by you because, at the time, they were the only way you knew how to stay safe.
We don’t need to hate those walls.
They once served a purpose.
We simply stop mistaking them for home.
And little by little, something changes.
The world may look exactly the same.
But you don’t.
You begin to notice the sunlight again.
You laugh more easily.
You become curious.
You trust your instincts.
You feel your feet on the earth.
You hear the wind differently.
You notice the life around you.
You remember that you belong to something larger than your own story.
And then, quietly, almost imperceptibly…
the shadow begins to lift.
✨ This is The Return™
The Return™ isn’t a destination.
It isn’t a place hidden behind some distant mountain.
It isn’t about escaping this reality or becoming someone more spiritual.
It is the gradual remembering of what the shadow could never destroy.
Your curiosity.
Your courage.
Your joy.
Your voice.
Your connection.
Your capacity to love.
Your ability to stand firmly in your own life.
The part of you that existed before the world told you who you were supposed to be.
The part that still knows:
You are more than what happened to you.
And perhaps healing isn’t about finding yourself at all.
Perhaps you were never truly lost.
Perhaps you were simply buried beneath everything you learned you had to become.
The walls can come down.
The old stories can be understood.
The inherited burdens can be laid down.
And beneath them…
there you are.
Not a new person.
You.
The land never disappeared.
The light never went out.
The land simply forgot its name.
And perhaps that’s what happens to us sometimes.
We forget.
We survive.
We adapt.
We become who we need to become.
Until one day something inside us whispers:
Remember.
And that is where the journey home begins.
Not somewhere else.
Not someday.
Here.
